How do I install the WordPress blog application on my site?


In order to install WordPress on your site, you must be comfortable. . .

  • ... using FTP to access your site's files.
  • ... using a text editor to edit configuration files.
  • ... troubleshooting problems by reading Codex, the WordPress documentation database.

Downloading and Configuring WordPress

  1. 1. Download the latest WordPress package from .
  2. 2. Unzip the file. The file will extract its contents, creating a folder titled 'wordpress'.
  3. 3. Open the 'wordpress' folder, then rename the file wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php .
  4. 4. Open wp-config.php with a text editor (Notepad, TextEdit, gEdit, etc.). Using the MySQL Database information sent to you in the "Welcome to LAMP Host" email, fill in the Database, Username, and Password details in the wp-config.php file. Be sure to save your changes to the file.

Uploading WordPress

  1. 1. Connect to your site via FTP using your preferred FTP client application. If you need help connecting to your site with the FTP client, see our FAQ on FTP here.
  2. 2. Use your FTP client to upload all files within the 'wordpress' folder into the 'htdocs' folder on the remote server. This process will take some time depending on your internet connection (~5 minutes using high speed cable or DSL).

Finalizing your WordPress Installation

  1. 1. Visit your site in a web browser (including the 'www' if you would prefer WordPress use it). You will be asked to provide basic information such as the title of your new blog and whether or not you would like search engines to index your blog entries.
  2. 2. Upon finalizing the installation, an 'admin' user and randomly generated password will be provided to you. It is very important that you save this information to log into your WordPress adminstrator Dashboard. If you would prefer not to keep the random password, it can easily be changed within the WordPress Dashboard.
