How do I filter messages that have been identified as spam by SpamAssassin(tm)?

How do I filter messages that have been identified as spam by SpamAssassin(tm)?

There are two ways you can filter spam messages: server side & client side.

Server Side: This method filters spam on the server. It moves messages identified as spam into a special folder called "Spam" and after a specified amount of time, deletes the messages from the server. To check the Spam folder for false positives you will need to check your Spam folder by either logging in to the webmail system, or using the IMAP protocol in your email client. Follow these steps to configure Server Side Filtering:

  1. First log into webmail (simply add /webmail/ to the end of your domain), like this: http://www.example.com/webmail/

  2. Select "SpamAssassin" from the top menu.
  3. Select a value from the "Filter" pulldown.
  4. Click the "SAVE SETTINGS" button.

This will set the amount of time that spam is saved in your "Spam" folder on the server, after which the message will be deleted. WARNING: Deleted messages can not be retrieved.

Client Side: This method uses your email client (Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc.) to filter messages after they have been downloaded from the server. Follow these steps to configure Client Side Filtering:

  1. Log into webmail (simply add /webmail/ to the end of your domain), like this: http://www.example.com/webmail/

  2. Select "SpamAssassin" from the top menu.
  3. Check the "Enable" box
  4. Set the "Filter" pulldown to "No Filtering".
  5. Click the "SAVE SETTINGS" button.
  6. Lastly, configure your email client to filter messages based on one of the special SpamAssassin(tm) headers. It is recommended that you set your email client to look for the "X-Spam-Flag: YES" header, and if found filter that message to a folder called "Spam". Then you can periodically scan through this folder looking for false-positives and deleting spam.
